L-Glutamic Acid
Application Notes
It is often used as a food additive and flavour enhancer in the form of its salt, known as monosodium glutamate (MSG). A glutamic acid derivative, poly-?-benzyl-L-glutamate (PBLG), is often used as an alignment medium to control the scale of the dipolar interactions observed. L-Glutamic acid is used in cell culture as a component of MEM non-essential amino acids solution. L-Glutamic acid has been used as a nitrogen source in the culture of Aspergillus fumigatus NRRL 2436 for fumagillin production. The competitive roles of L-glutamic acid and L-aspartic acid in the growth of Oenococcus oeni NCFB 1707 have been studied.
