Vanderzant-Adkisson special wheat germ diet for insects is a special Wheat Germ Diet for the Rearing of Various Insects: Vanderzant-Adkisson modification is widely used for laboratory rearing of more than 20 species of insects. Included among these are such important species of the order Lepidoptera as the corn earworm (Heliothis zea), the tobacco budworm (Heliothis virescens), the pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella), the cabbage looper (Trichoplusiani), beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua), yellow-striped armyworm (Prodenia ornithogalli), European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis), sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalis), and codlinh moth (Carpocapsa pomonella) and others. Also, two species of Curculionidae, the boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) and the alpha weevil (Hypera postica). The Special Wheat Germ Diet, when used with Vanderzant's Vitamin Fortification Mixture, has been very successful for rearing the corn earworm, the tobacco budworm and the pink bollworm.
