The PCR Mycoplasma Detection Set is a primer set designed to detect the presence of Mycoplasma species in biological materials such as cultured cells. Nested PCR is performed first using primers hybridizing to highly conserved ribosomal genes (16S and 23S rRNA), and then with primers hybridizing to the species-specific spacer region between these ribosomal genes. Species verification is determined by gel electrophoresis of the amplified products. The PCR Mycoplasma Detection Set allows rapid assessment of cell-culture contamination, shortening turnaround time from about one week (using conventional methods) to just a few hours.
